I have been looking around but cannot find any video tutorials for my iPod. I also looked on iTunes. Is it here ,and I just can't find it? I know I have seen some wonderful technique demos on YouTube but am not quite sure how or if I can download them to my iPod. It would be so wonderful for travel. I would gladly pay for something like this.
Why not talk about charts and the written word in patterns. Pros and cons. Take the "scarryness" out of reading charts. It seems to be an issue with many knitters in our shop regarding charts. We have avid lacemakers, that are quite comfortable with charts as well as some of our Aran knitters. However, the average knitter hasn't seen a chart or knows how to read a chart.
Good idea. The charts that I have seen have apparently been far too intricate or something. For my own designs I've created my own charting system to accomplish my task, but when I look at lace charts for example, I really get scared. I'm working on a lace shawl right now (just starting) but it is a standard four row pattern, and charting isn't really necessary. I want to move forward, but I'm a little afraid of getting started and then losing track and totally losing it.
I'm enjoying your revamped KPCommunity, however always spend quite a few minutes trying to remember/figure out how to download the latest podcast. I must download then listen from my hard drive rather that streaming from my work computer.
My suggestion is to place a link to the index of podcasts in a more prominent place, but still nearby the podcast section of the page.
Thank you!
Lori
I have finally listened to everyone of the podcasts. I love them! Great job Kelly. I do love the interviews with people and would love more of them. I was thinking maybe it would be nice to do a little more discussion on increase and decrease. You did some on increase and I learned from that, but I would like to hear more not only about the different ones, but also when they should be used. For example I have written my own pattern for a knitted animal I know that the increase and decrease can be done to lean in different directions, but I have found that some leave a hole where others don't, so when would you use the different types. I hope I explained myself, at least so you can get an idea of what I mean. I think it would also be fun to hear what each of the staff members favorite knitting item is. Like maybe a certain pair or brand of scissors, or bag, markers, or so on and why. Even people writing in. I know you learn so much with those discussions.
I must add one more item. I have always liked my metal needles I know that is because that is what I was taught with when I was a child. I tried wood and no they just were not for me. Now I know the many advantage to wood and disadvantages to metal, maybe I had compensated for the disadvantages of metal like slipping stitches, since I have knit so many years with them. In one of the podcasts Kelly spoke of trying the method of one circular needle for socks and she had been so happy with two circular needles. It reminded me that what I used to teach in sewing classes to keep you mind open to new possiablities. I hadn't done this with my knitting needles. I tried the Harmony needles and loved them!!! I went back and purchased the whole options set in harmony. Now I have both. One set will go in my camper so I am never without needles again. Just wanted to mention it.
Thank you for the great podcasts.

I always wonder what other people do when given yarn. I live in a rather small town here in Indiana and most people know that I knit. As a result, I am given tons of yarn. Most of it is cheap arcrylic yarn though. I am not a yarn snob by any stretch, some arcrylic yarns are very nice and even more expensive than natural fibers. Anyway, I usually keep all my yarn. There is a knitting group at a chuch that knits for charity and I sometimes give some of my yarn to them.
Another topic is knitting for pets. I have a guinea pig and I knit and felted a blanket for him. He loves it. I want to make a bigger one the next time.
Things I love about the KP podcasts: information about what's going on at KP, detail from a more experienced knitter to a novice (like how to pick up dropped stitches without frogging your entire work!), book reviews
Things that make me yawn: the interviews. They're poor sound/recording quality, they don't offer much information, and they make me feel like I'm overhearing a lunch conversation at the next table.
Please please please bring back more podcasts with information about how to knit, tricks of the trade, etc. I can't wait every Friday for the newest one!
Not really sure if this is the right place to put this, but at least I know youll get it.
Could we start a book group on this site?
As a result of seeing your reading list on a re cent podcast, I have gone to the library and scouted out some of them. I am currently reading Ken Follet "Jackdaws" and it has reminded me of a book called "Between cyanide and silk" by Leo Marks. If you don't know it, it is written by the son of the owner of "84 Charring Cross Road" - another book I think you would love if you haven't read it yet.
Silk & Cyanide is about Leo Marks' code writing/breaking efforts in ww2 and is really a wonderful book - Leo's compassion and inspiring personality shines in every page.
Maybe we could start the group by reading first l and then the other of these 2 books. I'm certainly up for reading them again.
My ipod got stolen out of the car a couple of weeks ago and I'm not in a position to replace it at the present time -0 which has really really ticked me off! so ipod listening is out for the moment, which really changes the enjoyment of using the walking machine at the gym and bikeriding - who said life wasn't meant to be easy? (That is a well worn statement made by one of our prime ministers many years ago - a statement Im sure he is sorry he ever made!
Bye for now, love you, your podcast and knitpicks. Haven't been in a position to order from you yet, but i have my list ready for when that happy day comes.l
When i turn on your podcast and I hear that music and your voice I melt! Once when i was staying away overnight and I forgot to take my regular sleeping pill (a novel!!) i listened to you instead and wofted off beautifully.
