I'd like to propose a tutorial topic: How to WRITE a pattern, which could possibly also fall under the larger heading of DESIGNING KNITWEAR.
I'm currently knitting a new copy of an old sweater, for which I no longer have the pattern. I'm writing the pattern, too, in case I ever want to knit the sweater again. But it has been a real chore. Even, when using other patterns as models.
I was wondering if the May catalogs have been mailed. I usually get one but haven't gotten anything as of yet. I really wanted this one since it's about lace knitting.
There are a few ways to integrate the two. if it's a yarn that felts easily I tend to kind of spider out the fibers a bit, for a couple of inches on each side, lap them over each other, intertwine them, get it wet and rub them between my hands really quickly. They felt together, and it does NOT come loose. The way I do if it's not a feltable yarn, is I loop one end back on itself, and do the same on the other, link them, and knit them, holding it so that it's doubled on itself for a little bit. I can't think of the names of those two techniques, but they are the ones that work best for me.
I am going to Scotland later this summer and would love to visit some yarn stores, craft centers or other knitting type experience while my honey golfs. Any ideas? Thanks!

is a link to Rowan yarn stockists in Scotland. If they have rowan, they'll have other good yarns. You may need to copy and paste it into your link window since I don't think links that long work from this site.
Hope this helps. If you want more info, google Scotland yarn stockists and put yarn stockists in quotes.
Hello, I am in a bit of a spot. I came on KnitPicks and saw all the wonderful lace yarn, so I bought about $40 worth of them. However, they are not rolled in a ball like I'm used to, and I don't have a winder to wind them into balls. The one I tried to use got so entangled that I gave up on it. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do with them, short of buying a ball winder? I don't have that kind of money yet to buy a ball winder and a swift. I really want to start on some lace patterns for my family and friends.
Thank you very much, and I look forward to your reply.
