Substituted Knitpicks Gloss Fingering for the Shibuiknits Sock yarn suggested for the Fountain Hat. It really does look nice and is so warm. I think the merino/silk sheen of the gloss yarn really worked well to show off the beautiful starbusts in this pattern.

I'm knitting the same hat using Imagination Wicked Witch. It's FABULOUS! The Gloss Fingering yarn is really beautiful, but it looks less 'full' than the hat pictured with the pattern. Was your gauge the same as the pattern suggests? I'm concerned that the hat be as loose as it appeared. Thanks.

I used a size 5 16" circular because I did not have a 4. I will definitely use a 4 the next time I knit this. Also, this hat is unblocked in the pic. You can wet-block yours and I am sure it will be fine. I hope you'll post a pick so we can see how it comes out:)

Just wanted to say that I posted a photo of my finished Fountain Hat from Imagination Wicked Witch. It's hard to 'read' the lace in the photo, but my daughter was wildly pleased. The hat is sitting on an upside down drinking glass, so the shape is all wrong! But it was really soft and the colors are wonderful.

If you go to the 'Photos' section and search for "Wicked Witch Fountain Hat", the picture will come up. Your hat is still just super!

Your hat looks beautiful. I love the softness of gloss. I just knitted a shawl with it. Now after seeing your hat will use it for my next hat project. I am currently knitting a pair of socks using Shibuiknits and I do like it for socks, however I think the gloss is a nicer yarn for a hat.

QUESTION: I want to make the Fiber Trends clog pattern with KnitPicks yarn -- would the Wool of the Andes worsted weight work for this pattern? Thanks!

Yes, WOTA is a good substitution and felts well. I've made a pair of Fiber Trends clogs with WOTA and they turned out fantastic!

I would really like to make the Nordic Mittens from Interweave Knits Winter 2004 or http://shop.interweave.com/store/Nordic-Mittens-P602C35.aspx. I think palette would be an appropriate yarn (and I've been itching to try it), but I am having a hard figuring out the colour subsitutions. Any suggestions?

I'll give it a stab.
plumberry - use Eggplant
Burnt sienna - use Pimento
French clay - use Marsala
Bev's bear - use Doe
Dusty Heather - use Tidepool
Nervous green - use Green Tea Heather
Bordeau - use Merlot Heather
Latte - Use Camel Heather

I think I got them all. See what you think.

Thank you so much for your input. I get very intimidated by colour and I think one of my concerns is that the Eggplant won't be as dark/rich as the plumberry. Do you think I would get a similar effect if I switched it out for navy blue?
